Paris again
Paris is in many ways similar to India- love in its many forms seems to be the life blood of each.
In India it is not uncommon to hear a man on the street singing the latest love song from the movies, Bollywood is all about love, Taj, Ghandi…..
In Paris turn the heat up a notch[ I think the real reason cafés have firer extinguishers is for those customers who are actually sizzling!] it is amour.
Not only romantically but for all of life’s pleasures- I could smell the tomatoes passing the fruit shop[ in Australia I can bounce them but flavour was left behind]- the vin ordinaire is good, a sense of style is everywhere evident.
Not one moulded plastic chair in sight [ they are breeding across the world this is the only country so far not infected!]
The feminine is acceptable and appreciated in both places- I have followed the feminist line, raised my children alone for 15 years, had a full time and fulfilling job, built a house, made the bread and the meals- really the lot.
It is refreshing not to have to look like a bloke doing so. Both places have the space for a vision of the feminine which is distinct from the masculine and I like that.
Paris like the Indian bazaar is similar in that the same kind of shops seems to proliferate in a similar area.
I mentioned fabric around the foot of the Sacre Coeur,
Handbag and all type of glitzy bits, beads and sparkle adorn the little narrow streets west of the Pompidou Centre.
Follow the rue de Fauburg Montmartre along toward the Hotel de Ville and you go through a gourmet food area,
Up along the boulevarde Sebastapol towards the Gare de l’Est seems the place for wigs
Many impressions…
The doormen or Bouncers [beautifully dressed men in suits]to the shops are less hunky the flasher the establishment
Good looking and original clothing shops are everywhere and it is sale time so all are very busy.
The news headlines mention a German Opera being cancelled because the head of Mohamed is one of the stage props and they are concerned it may offend sections of the community. Good on them for their concern and sensitivity, this may seem a little extreme to some but in these times this type a gesture will go a long way to building bridges – it is not an act of fear but of reconciliation and I applaud it.
Fon is a new thing being mention it is to do with wireless internet, they are suggesting if you have broadband you can allow others to use it wirelessly and when you travel you can take advantage of a similar thing. Many cafés are already offering this type of connection

Paris

Well Paris is beautiful and the first snap is of someone I was walking behind down the street. Doesn’t she look just stunning? You can’t quite see her shoes but they were very high black wedges- all in all very elegant [ even if I don’t know how you walk on those shoes all day!]
The Sacre Couer Church at the top of Montmatre is a great place to start an unguided tour of Paris [ I just walk, walk and walk and see what I come across].around the little streets at the foot of the hill are many, many fabric shops- these are almost extinct in Australia but seem to be alive and well and prospering in Paris. They have a good range of fabric, lots of braid and all the extras. Even one of the major department stores in the centre of Paris has 2 floors devoted to fabric.
Wonderful quality, fantastic range and very good prices bring empty suitcase if you come this way.
Next I went to the new Art Museum at Quai Branly. Over whelming! Such a collection- really you would need to go every week for at least a year to get every thing.
The collection is based on the work of non-western traditions. So is a collection of sculpture, textiles, paintings musical instruments and etc, etc, etc.
It seems very carefully chosen and displays highlight of the area being examined.[in the area on India there is one of the finest kanthas I have ever seen]. The garments of display from the middle east are just stunning, I must say I went into overload around there and could have cried with burn out.
The value of looking at things like this for me lies in educating my eyes and I think it all perculates into a better understanding of putting things together and will hopefully inform my work in times to come.
That collection is going to take some time for me to daydream through and remember the details.
I might go back to morrow a lot slower and take some notes- or should I hit the Louvre? So many choices and not enough time..
Today is a contemporary art fair in front of the Hotel de Ville- should be very interesting
photos are the outside of the Musee Quai Branly and a fountain by Nikki de St Faille outside the Pompidou Centre [ for Oliver if you see this Nicola]

canada, london and Paris

this is the lovely Rose, with our stone friend at Writing on Sone Park in the middle of Canada,
all along the river is a whole forest of this remarkable weathered stone.
i spent a number of wonderful days with Rose, we explored and spent time in her studio making Felt[ along with Cindy and her Mum- Canadians are so friendly and kind]
next I crossed the country to visit Pamela Allen [check her out on the web- i really enjoy her work, having the chance to get up close to some of her art quilts I found some really moving- such a strong feel to them- very enjoyable]
and meet the Kingston Creative Textile group
I have finally hit London, or been hit by London more like.
It is amazing- so big, so busy so many people.
On the news on the way in on the train– I had to laugh- they said “Paris Hilton, long thought to be a waste of air and water was now realized to be a waste of air, water and margaritas after her recent drink driving charges”
I thought it set the tone immediately of English humor.
I am putting up a few images of Canada, I visited this park where the rock formations were extraordinary,
I enjoyed the Canadian countryside- beautiful and so much water- flying over there are as many lakes as land. So different to Australia, you never see large bodies of water as you fly across.
I enjoyed my teaching the participants were hard working and highly skilled so we seemed to cover a lot of ground and had a lot to learn from the examples each person produced.
Great place Canada- friendly people, beautiful landscape, cute rodents- squirrels all over the place
now i am finally getting this up i am actually in Paris for a few days.
Paris wraps me up like Delhi- I imediately feel at home and happy just to be here.
i walked so far today though that my feet nearly fell off!
still i am sure i will muster the energy soon to go out and sit in a cafe, watch people passing by and enjoy dinner.
In Paris you just realise life is meant to be enjoyed and criused along with.
Boy are the local people good to look at here, apart from Asia you don't see so many trim people and the locals are sssssoooooooo stylish.
australians- we should be pleased with the anti-smoking campaigns in our country- looking around over here and esp Uk so many smaoke[ and boy does it stink] as well as every ones health. oh well that's life
bye
