what to do

15 June, 2007

Talking of exhibition ideas with a friend, felt rather satisfied
then in the evening....
News stories of the horrors in the Middle east/Afghanistan….. my friend in San Francisco addresses war with her artworks, her bombs- what am I doing?
How can I do more? …. I try to convey we are all one, part of one world… but do I / should I being saying things more loudly.

What is happening deeply distresses me- it is part of our entire home… like in our own house our personal behavior sets the ambience of our home.

People across the world are no different to you or I- just different skin tones, hair colours we all deserve a safe place to live.
20 June,
these catalogues came in the mail from Dijanne Cevaal, she has taken an exhibition "Sense of Place- in the spirit of goodwill" to Syria and France.
I think this is a fine example of us each working in out own way for positive change.

Imitating headless chickens.

12 June, 2007

I thought getting home would be so relaxing…. But I am still in the mode of so much to do so little time!

I am being creative in a way at the moment- I am sorting out details for a tour to Europe and the UK- similar idea to my Indian ones-

Off the tourist trail as much as I can, hands on, small group to chat to….
It has made my very homesick? Not the right word…nostalgic for some of the wonderful places I have been and I am so looking forward to re-visiting.

I feel like I met people who could become real friends given more time together and locations that had a ring of home about them.

It has been cold, grey and raining here, flooding in fact [ not my house] and at the computer working is resulting in a bit of cabin fever.
Or itchy feet [ an Aussie way of saying I want to go traveling- not that I have some weird foot disease!]

Here a few photos I dug out of places I long to revisit, these and any where warm….perhaps I should look for a cheap flight to visit my son who is working as a chef in Cairns for a few days…nice to day dream

Tonight the local ladies are taking over the fire at the local pub to knit and natter- we were going to call it stitch and bitch but that name is taking and we thought we might scare some of the local blokes! Should be fun.

exhibition finished

1 June.

Big day yesterday, delivered my latest exhibition to the gallery.

It was weird working in MY studio when I first got back- it felt so normal… just like I had never been away [ except for all the dust that has built up!]

Here are a few pics, one of many of the pieces before framed and one in a frame.
This is the blurb I wrote for the flyers.

Leaves, leaving- a journal

All places are leaves out of the same book- the Earth

We are all leaves from the same book- humanity

I started with the intention of recoding my travels and found I was contemplating leaving, those things left as much as the actual places I was visiting.

After dropping the pices off I had time for a wee bit of looking in my favourite galleries.
My most favouritest Sydney gallery is Gallery Gondwana http://www.gallerygondwana.com.au/ . The work they mostly show is indigenous, the artists they show always really come from the heart.
Sometimes you can walk into a show and think tyhis is really clever, or what a great idea.
Here I always first get hit by what a wonderful feeling.
The lady on show at the moment is Mitjili Napanangka- what an example contemporary abstract work- that inistelf is a lesson in colour and movement across the surface.
Knowing she is talking of the land and places special to her you also get an impressions of her experience of these places as she sings the painting into existence.

I would guess she is one lady for whom laughter comes easily.

If you visit the galley, there is a whole heap of galleries opposite in the Depot, Danks St, Waterloo – which always have a few interesting eyefuls and great coffee and lunch at the Wahwah café just down the road.

Time at home now, major spring cleaning necessary, office work coming out of my ears but most importantly some time to try out new ideas in the studio- wonderful!
